Choose The Perfect Kitchen Door Part 1

What We Do 1

Choose the perfect kitchen doors

For most of us, the kitchen cabinets you choose are often dictated by your budget – other important factors to consider though are their purpose and longevity.

From replacement kitchen doors to a bespoke kitchen – choosing the best materials, finish and design for your dream kitchen can be a daunting task, below are a few tips that you should find helpful before planning a new kitchen.

Do it yourself

If you’re on a tight budget then purchasing flat-packed cabinets that are ready to assemble is going to be the best option – these are widely available at DIY stores such as IKEA (Ikea have a fantastic kitchen range of replacement doors, metod doors, fronts and carcasses) , Homebase, Wickes and B&Q.

Buy ready-made

The cabinets are fully built complete with hinges and kitchen doors attached. This does save on installation time (this can be expensive if hiring a joiner), however the disadvantage of ready-assembled kitchen cabinets is that delivery costs will be high due to the size.

Bespoke kitchen doors

Kitchens come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, one size does not fit all. The main advantage of a tailor-made kitchen is that any awkward nooks and quirky features/space will be used to their full potential.

Perfect fit

Once you have chosen your dream kitchen the final (and very important) factor is the kitchen fitter. Do your research and find a reputable fitter, seek recommendations and always ask to see examples of their previous work.

The cabinet

The carcass is the foundation and backbone of any kitchen. Although unseen, completely hidden by doors and panels, the carcass is essential to the overall quality, longevity and durability of the cabinet. Generally the thickness of a kitchen carcass is either 15mm, 16mm or 18mm – make sure you double check all measurements!

Materials & finish

Whether your budget stretches to solid wood or MDF, the final finish will have a big effect on looks, longevity, durability and ease of maintenance.

The handle

Do you go with a handle or without? the options are endless but sleek handless doors are a fantastic option to give your kitchen a streamlined and contemporary look.
